Honouring Dr. Rupert Neudeck

Together with the Vietnamese community and the German Church in East Melbourne, a service was held last Sunday to commemorate the life of the late Dr Rupert Neudeck.

Dr. Rupert Neudeck, May 1939 - May 2016

In his early childhood, Rupert endured life as a refugee during WWII. Understanding the difficulties of displacement, Rupert and his wife Christel formed the committee “A Ship for Vietnam” in 1979, which had the purpose of rescuing people fleeing the Vietnam War.

On board the Cap Anamur, Rupert and Christel saved over 10,000 people at sea, whilst also providing medical assistance to at least 35,000 more.

Following this mission, Rupert founded “Cap Anamur - German Emergency Doctors”, which is an organisation providing medical and educational services to Africa, Asia and parts of Europe.

On top of this, he also founded the Grünhelme (Green Helmets). This group rebuilds critical infrastructure in war-afflicted regions.

Rupert dedicated his life to helping others. To this day, his actions continue to touch the lives of many.
